What is keyboard ghosting?
Ghosting occurs when your keyboard cannot register certain combinations of keys pressed simultaneously. It is a common problem with cheap membrane keyboards. In gaming, this can prevent you from doing combinations like running (W) + crouching (Ctrl) + strafing (A/D) at the same time. Keyboards with anti-ghosting or N-Key Rollover (NKRO) can register all keys regardless of how many you press.
Tips about ghosting
- If your keyboard has ghosting, look for one with anti-ghosting or NKRO
- Mechanical keyboards generally have better anti-ghosting than membrane ones
- 6 simultaneous keys (6KRO) is enough for most games
- Test the key combinations you normally use in your games
