Reflex and Performance Tests
This section measures what you bring to the game rather than what your hardware does. On one side sits reaction time: how many milliseconds pass between a stimulus appearing and your response landing, a figure that in shooters separates winning a corner duel from losing it. On the other sits actions per minute, which sums up how fast you feed inputs to keyboard and mouse and matters most in real-time strategy, MOBAs and any genre where juggling several things at once decides the match.
Read the numbers sensibly. A typical human visual reaction time sits around 200 to 250 milliseconds, and going below that owes far more to anticipation and game knowledge than to superhuman reflexes. APM works the same way: a huge score packed with wasted inputs is worth nothing against a moderate, well-directed one. Treat both tests as a personal baseline. Measure under similar conditions, compare yourself against your own results across weeks, and ignore scores posted by other people on different monitors, different peripherals and a different day's form.
What order to run these tests in
Your reaction time swings more than you think: morning versus night, rested versus three hours into a session. That is why the order starts by building a stable measurement and ends by comparing it against other people's data, not against one lucky personal best.
- 01 Take five runs, not one A single attempt measures nothing but luck. Do at least five and keep the average, because that is the figure that will still be there when you test yourself again.
- 02 Retest at the same hour Measure across several days at the same time of day. That way you compare like with like and see real progress, instead of the gap between being fresh and being tired.
- 03 Compare against percentiles Use the percentiles, not your personal record. Your best run is an outlier; the percentile tells you where you actually stand against everyone else taking the same test.
- 04 Measure your APM too The reaction test measures how long you take to decide; APM measures how many actions you execute per minute. Separating them tells you whether your ceiling is mental or mechanical.
Reference values
These figures include the latency of your display and your mouse, so they are useful for comparing yourself with other people taking the same kind of test, not for measuring raw reflexes under lab conditions.

Frequently asked questions
Can reaction time actually be improved with practice?
Partly, mainly the decision and anticipation stage. The purely neural component barely shifts, so most real gains come from recognising situations earlier rather than from reacting faster.
How much does hardware affect these results?
Quite a lot. Your monitor, refresh rate, mouse latency and even the browser add milliseconds to the measurement, so only compare results recorded on the same setup and connection.
Does a high APM mean I am playing better?
Not on its own. APM counts actions, not quality. It is useful for spotting whether your pace collapses under pressure, but it never substitutes for making the right decisions.
