Why your crosshair matters more than it looks
It is the only piece of interface you look at 100% of the time you play, always dead centre. Size and colour are not decoration: too big and it hides the head you are aiming at, too low in contrast and your eyes pay for it.
The other call is static versus dynamic. A dynamic crosshair expands when you move and shrinks when you stop, so it tells you what you already know once you have learned movement and recoil. From there it distracts instead of informing, because your reference changes size mid-duel. Hence static in competitive play.
Copying a pro's crosshair is a starting point, not a destination. That player has their own resolution, their own monitor size and their own viewing distance; change one of the three and the same numbers look fatter or thinner on your screen.
Six tips before you touch the settings
- Test every new crosshair on the practice range before ranked: static and moving bots settle it in minutes.
- Do not change it every week. Visual memory takes time to build and every tweak resets it.
- Turn the outline on if you play bright maps: sand and snow swallow a thin crosshair.
- Adjust the gap before the size. The issue is rarely that it is big, but that it covers what you need to see.
- Save your current code before experimenting, so you can roll back in five seconds.
- Check how it looks scoped in with a sniper rifle: what feels clean while hipfiring can turn intrusive at zoom.
