How the Test Works

During the gesture, the test sums the pixels accumulated by the browser from the movement events it receives. The longer and faster the physical swipe, the larger the final figure. It is a direct measure of the magnitude of your spin exactly as the system hands it to the web page. The limitations follow from that. Those pixels depend on the DPI configured on your mouse and on the scaling and pointer-speed settings of your operating system, so two people with different hardware will post wildly different figures while making exactly the same physical gesture. That is why the number is only comparable to yourself, as long as you keep the same configuration: it tracks your own consistency, not your standing against anyone else. It is also worth stating what this test is not. It is not a measure of the sensor's maximum tracking speed in IPS, the figure manufacturers obtain with lab equipment moving the mouse at controlled speeds across calibrated surfaces. The browser only sees processed movement, never the sensor's internal behaviour, so a low result indicates a short or slow gesture rather than a limited sensor.

How to Read Your Result

The accumulated displacement describes the magnitude of your spin under your current configuration. These bands help you place the gesture.

DisplacementGesture levelWhat it indicates
< 2000 pxContained gestureA short movement, typical of a high DPI or a spin performed with the wrist alone. Enough to turn in high-sensitivity games, but little headroom for wide sweeps.
2000–5000 pxModerate gestureThe usual range for medium-sensitivity players resting the wrist. Covers most fast turns without needing to reposition the hand.
5000–10000 pxWide gestureA long, committed swipe, typical of players who move from the arm. Usually pairs with low sensitivity and a large mousepad.
10000–20000 pxVery wide gestureA full high-speed sweep across the pad. Check your desk gives you enough clear space to repeat it without hitting anything.
> 20000 pxExtreme sweepA figure this large implies a high DPI, an enormous swipe, or both. Repeat the gesture several times: if results vary a lot, the movement is not yet consistent.

Tips for a Consistent Spin

  • Clear the desk before testing: if the gesture ends by hitting something, the result measures the obstacle rather than your movement.
  • Lift the mouse at the end of the swipe instead of braking it against the pad edge, so the gesture finishes clean and repeatable.
  • Take several attempts in a row and watch the spread: consistency matters far more than the highest figure you can produce.
  • Check the pad is lying flat and free of creases, because a friction change midway through the sweep breaks the spin.
  • Note your DPI alongside the result; without it the figure means nothing a month from now.
  • If you are comparing configurations, change one variable at a time and repeat the test within the same session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What figure should I be getting in this test?

There is no correct figure. The result depends on your DPI, your system settings and how wide your gesture is, so the useful signal is your own consistency: repeat the spin several times on the same configuration and watch how much the numbers vary between attempts.

Can I compare my result with another player's?

Not meaningfully. With a different DPI or different system scaling, the same physical gesture produces very different figures. The test has value as a personal reference and loses all meaning as a comparison across different setups.

Does this test measure my sensor's maximum speed?

No. Maximum tracking speed is measured in inches per second with lab equipment and calibrated surfaces. Here you only see pixels the operating system has already processed, which cannot tell you anything about the sensor's internal behaviour.

Why do my spins come out differently every time?

Because an explosive gesture is hard to repeat exactly. Speed, swipe length and the point where you lift the mouse all shift slightly on each attempt. With practice the spread narrows, and that narrowing is precisely what signals progress.

Should I use a low sensitivity if turning feels hard?

It depends on the space you have. Low sensitivity improves fine control but demands long physical swipes, so it needs a large pad and a clear desk. Without that space, a slightly higher sensitivity gives you comfortable turns without sacrificing much precision.
