Click to start, then hit the targets

How the Test Works

The test places targets at random coordinates inside the test area and records where each click lands. If the pointer sits inside the target at the moment you press, it scores a hit; outside, a miss. In parallel it times the gap between a target appearing and the click that resolves it, and uses that series to calculate your average time per target. Those two values give an honest snapshot of how you balance control against speed. It is worth being clear about scope. This measures click precision on static targets on a two-dimensional plane, which is a real and trainable skill, but it does not replace a 3D aim trainer with moving targets, tracking and flicks inside a game environment. A shooter adds sensitivity expressed in degrees, field of view, recoil and an opponent who moves, and no browser test reproduces those variables. Two hardware factors also shape your result. Screen size and resolution change the distance you must cover between targets, and mouse DPI changes how far the cursor travels per centimetre of hand movement. The same player can post different numbers on a laptop and on a large monitor without having improved or declined at all.

How to Read Your Result

The hit percentage is the headline figure. These bands place you and suggest where to focus your practice.

AccuracyLevelWhat to train
< 50 %BeginnerYou are missing more than half your clicks. Deliberately slow down and prioritise landing on target over arriving fast: speed is built on top of control, never before it.
50–70 %DevelopingControl is there but it collapses when you speed up. Work on braking the cursor just before the target instead of overshooting and correcting afterwards.
70–85 %CompetentYour hand is reliable in normal conditions. The remaining gains come from cutting your average time per target without letting the percentage slide.
85–95 %AdvancedSolid, consistent control. Push the pace until you find the exact point where misses appear, then train just below that ceiling.
> 95 %EliteYou barely miss. If the average time is low too, your hand is no longer the limitation: move on to decision-making, tracking and flicks in a real game environment.

Tips to Improve Your Accuracy

  • Warm up for a minute with relaxed clicks before measuring: the first seconds always drag in worse numbers that do not represent your level.
  • Rest your forearm and leave clear space on both sides; an arm wedged against the desk edge limits your swipe and multiplies misses.
  • Brake the cursor just before the target rather than stopping on top of it: arriving while decelerating avoids the extra correction that eats your time.
  • Keep sessions to two or three minutes; accuracy drops measurably as soon as fatigue sets in.
  • Hold the same DPI, resolution and posture every time so comparisons between sessions actually mean something.
  • If your percentage falls when you raise the pace, return to the previous pace and stay there a week before trying again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hit percentage counts as good?

Above 85 % is already advanced control, and clearing 95 % puts your hand in genuinely fine territory. Even so, the percentage only means something alongside the timing: hitting 98 % while taking two seconds per target is not better than hitting 90 % in half the time.

Is this test useful for training shooter aim?

It works as a warm-up and as a measure of your click control, but it does not replace a 3D aim trainer. A real game has moving targets, recoil, field of view and decisions under pressure, and none of that appears in a browser test built around static targets.

Does screen size affect the result?

Yes. On a large screen the targets sit further apart and the cursor has to travel more, which penalises your average time. Always compare results captured on the same monitor at the same resolution.

Should I change my DPI if my accuracy is low?

Before touching DPI, check whether pace is the real problem: plenty of people miss simply because they move faster than they can control. If the cursor still slips past targets by a small margin even when you go slowly, your sensitivity is probably too high and lowering it will help fine adjustment.

How often should I repeat the test?

Two or three times a week is enough to see a trend without obsessing over it. Run it under similar conditions, at the same time of day if you can, because fatigue and warm-up affect the score far more than most people expect.
